HISTORY

Central Church of the Nazarene is a part of the Church of the Nazarene with over 2.7 million members worldwide, represented in 165 world areas.  The Church of the Nazarene traces its anniversary date to 1908. Its organization was a marriage that, like every marriage, linked existing families and created a new one. The church was founded as the Lord brought together sincere believers who were experiencing the life-changing power of God in their revivals and church services. Utilizing evangelism, compassionate ministries, and education, their church went forth to become a people of many cultures and tongues. If you’d like more Nazarene history and a complete picture of our churches scope and reach, check out nazarene.org.

Central Church began in 1940 with a group of faithful followers of Christ meeting together in a rented building in Kansas City, Kansas. The world was at war and great uncertainty at nearly every turn, but with a missionary zeal and a desire to reach people with the love of Christ, the passion of the early members was evident as they soon purchased a building at 10th and Pacific. As lives were impacted and the church began to grow, they relocated to 18th and Barnett in the 1960’s and in 1981, Central moved to its current location on 87th Street Parkway. Throughout many years, there have been many great pastors and laymen alike who have been faithful and joyful in their service to the Lord and to Central Church. The result is a great church that is making a difference in the Kingdom of God.
