Dear Central Church,

If you have kids at home, you’ve probably done some “back to school” shopping over the last few weeks. I had a teacher tell me that the first day back to school feels more like a “red carpet” event: everyone is showing off their new clothes for the school year.

I remember the year I got a new pair of sneakers right before the beginning of school. Walking out of the store, I thought I could jump higher and run faster than anyone else at school with those shoes. When I got to gym class, I discovered that I was just as slow and just as vertically challenged as I had ever been.

In Colossians 3, the Apostle Paul describes a list of virtues as “clothes” that we “put on” when we come to Christ. He concludes by saying it’s love that brings together all the different elements of our new outfit. My new sneakers didn’t make a difference in my ability to run or jump, but when we “put on” the new clothes available to us in Christ, it makes an eternal difference in our lives and in the lives of others.

I hope you’ll join us Sunday as we discover the kinds of “clothes” we are called to wear. God wants us to be “dressed to the nines” by his grace at work in our lives.

Speaking of Sunday…

This Sunday our connection team is hosting “Lunch on Us.” This is for anyone who is new to Central Church to learn more about our beliefs, mission, and values. This is also for anyone who may have a friend or acquaintance that’s new. This is your chance to invite them to have lunch and learn more about this church you love! You can RSVP for yourself or your friends by clicking here.

Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Until He’s Finished,

Pastor Mark
