MARCH 21, 2025
Dear Central Church,
This Sunday is Palm Sunday, which begins Holy Week. It’s the final 7 days before Easter Sunday, and it is filled with the drama of God’s salvation.
I’ve preached on Palm Sunday many times, but this year I am drawn to this detail of Jesus sending the disciples to acquire a colt for his arrival in Jerusalem. He instructs them to say to its owners, “The Lord needs it.” God is powerful and all-knowing, in need of nothing. And yet, the Lord needs someone’s young colt to begin the events that would result in salvation for humanity.
Livestock served a valuable purpose in the first century and continues to be an integral part of human life today. This particular colt, however, transcended its traditional purpose and was used in God’s mission to save the world as Jesus rides triumphantly on its back inviting people to reimagine what kingship looks like.
We have a divine purpose. We are called to a divine mission. The Lord chooses to work through us and our unique stories to redeem and save the world.
In our “Made for Mission” prayer we have prayed, “Help me to find my place in what we do.” As we conclude this sermon series on Palm Sunday, I’m asking God to answer that for each one of us. We are a people of purposeful mission, and we all have a place in that calling. Like the colt used in the triumphant entry, may we lift up King Jesus in all we think, do, and say.
Here are 3 practical ways to engage in that mission this week:
The Bunny Hop. This is an outreach event for our community, like a Trunk-or-Treat and an Egg Hunt combined. Check out the information below and invite your friends with children to attend!
Easter Invite Card. We have cards available in the sanctuary for you to share with friends, co-workers, and neighbors. This is an easy way to share with neighbors the difference the resurrection has made in your life!
Share on Social Media. All of our Easter events have supporting pictures, details, and videos on social media. Share what you find on our channels! Here’s a video I did that is specifically designed for someone who may be curious about faith. I need 50 people to share this video!
Most importantly, please keep the Bunny Hop and Easter services in your prayers. I’m trusting the Lord to use these efforts to change someone’s life for eternity. Remember: we are someone’s best chance to know Jesus!
Until He’s Finished,
Pastor Mark
