Dear Central Church,
I try to wait as long as I can to turn on the Christmas music, but with Thanksgiving being so late this year, I decided it was time! My car radio is now set to 24/7 Christmas music. It really is the most wonderful time of the year, but not because of holiday deals, things that glitter, and Hallmark movies. This season of Advent invites us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. His presence in our lives makes all the difference.
As we turn our attention to this season of preparation and expectancy, let me share with you some important things that our going on in the life of our church:
This Sunday is our combined Thanksgiving Service! We’ll have one service only at 10:30. We will come together with our Hispanic and Brazilian congregations to celebrate baptisms and the reception of new church members. The theme of the day will be “1 Family,” and our guest preacher will be our new District Superintendent, Rev. Kyle Poole.
The youth ministry auction will happen immediately after the morning service. Join us in the fellowship hall for lunch and come prepared to bid on delicious deserts and other valuable items. The proceeds will go to fund various youth ministry activities throughout the year.
Advent officially begins on December 1, and we have the devotional guide, Changed in the Waiting, available for $7. You can pick up your book at the Welcome Center in the lobby. The sermons during this time will follow the devotional guide and several of our Life Groups will be following this material. If you’re not involved in a Life Group, this would be a great time to jump in.
God has always provided for ministries of our church, and I know he will continue to bless through the faithfulness and generosity of his people.
Until He’s Finished,
Pastor Mark
